Jemina Pearl is the leader of the pack on sassy, defiant rock

Singer Jemina Pearl may have found her Shangri-la.

The Nashville native (now a Brooklyn, New York resident) is on her second tour in support of the recent album “Break It Up” (Universal/ Ecstatic Peace). Released last October, the album has been getting a spate of great reviews.

Spin magazine said: “(Jemina Pearl’s) sweetly sassy debut collapses the distance between the Ronettes and the Runaways.” And I might add, the Shangri-Las, who recorded “Leader of the Pack.”

Pearl, a former member of Be Your Own Pet, will kick off her tour tonight (Jan. 13) in Chapel Hill, N.C. The trek includes a Seattle date Jan. 30 at Showbox at the Market. Opening are the Cribs.
