Good review, Bill. I agree wholeheartedly with all your comments. My wife and I saw the show Wednesday night and had a fabulous table right on the corner of the stage between the piano and Lani Hall's mic. It was a real treat to see and listen to an artist of Herb Alpert's stature and to find him so truly humble. I loved the interplay between Lani and Herb - truly the love each other and their talents are a nice compliment. Her voice is strong and powerful; her interpretations passionate and expressive. In fact, I could hear clearly the same voice I came to know and love when she was the lead singer with Brasil '66 so many years ago. The band surrounding the duo was also quite talented - and tight, just as you describe them.

The night we were there, Herb got a standing ovation that went on and on and on - for several minutes - after the TJB medley. He was clearly touched by the response, nearly moved to tears. All he could say when he finally composed himself was, "Aw, shucks". We stuck around for a little bit after the show just to shake his hand and tell him how much we appreciated his music and just the guy that he is - a legend, but a humble one at that. As far as I know, never got caught up in the sixties scene with the drugs and the booze and the running around that got so many other big stars in trouble. He's still got it!! And, I'm with you, I'd love to see another CD - and I'd love to see him again in Seattle in the perfectly intimate setting that is Dimitriou's Jazz Alley.
