CONCERT REVIEW: Herb Alpert and Lani Hall at Jazz Alley
By BILL VIRGIN
Herb Alpert could easily have capitalized on his legacy of helping to create the soundtrack of the American ’60s by hitting the casino, state fair and symphony pops circuit with a reconstituted Tijuana Brass and a “then I had a hit with. . . ” show.

“Lombardi’s Live” offers an intimate showcase for local jazz
I recently dropped by Lombardi’s Italian restaurant, where jazz artists from Seattle’s Pony Boy Records have been serenading diners with modern and retro jazz since early October in a series dubbed “Lombardi’s Live.”
The music series at the popular Ballard restaurant at 2200 N.W. Market St. began a month after Pony Boy’s sixth annual jazz picnic [...]

Celebrating its 21st year, Seattle’s Earshot Jazz Festival offers three weeks of traditional and cutting-edge jazz from here and abroad.

Seattle City of Music Awards makes its debut
In light of Seattle’s spotty history with music-awards shows, it’s impossible to predict how long the Seattle City of Music Awards will last.
But Wednesday night’s inaugural event at Showbox at the Market suggested that a second annual awards show will be eagerly anticipated next fall.

Bumbershoot is a wrap: the photographic evidence
The 2009 Bumbershoot festival came to a close with the last wailing guitar riffs from Modest Mouse Monday night at the Bumbershoot Mainstage.
It may go down as the wettest Bumbershoot of the last two decades, with showers and/or rain much of the weekend.
But festivalgoers braved the weather for some amazing performances, from Sheryl Crow to [...]

CONCERT REVIEW: Diana Krall at Chateau Ste. Michelle
The title of Diana’s Krall’s current album is “Quiet Nights,” a phrase that also describes her two-night stand at Chateau Ste. Michelle.
The second show Sunday night was a low-key but very classy affair featuring the jazz singer and pianist and her talented band — drummer Jeff Hamilton, bassist Robert Hurst and guitarist Anthony Wilson — [...]
